The practice founded by Mark Thimm had it's humble beginnings in 2002 providing accounting services from Melbourne. Over the past 15 years the business has grown internally and now includes a wider range of services popular with clients.  In 2015 the practice changed its name to 'Compass Advisors' reflecting our focus of providing guidance and direction.  Our head office is located in Malvern (8 kms south east of Melbourne's CBD) however our clients are based throughout Australia.

Founding director Mark Thimm is known for his passion for working with small/medium businesses and personal clients, assisting them to meet their financial and lifestyle objectives.  Mark takes pride in knowing each client first hand by having an 'open door' policy and personally being involved in delivering professional advice.

Mark started out in public practice in 1999 working with clients of accounting firms having a strong client focus.  These included two notable BRW top 100 firms in Melbourne, McLean Delmo Bentleys and Haines Muir Hill. Mark has been a member of CPA Australia for 15 years and holds a Public Practice Certificate as a Certified Practicing Accountant. He is also registered as a Tax Agent with the Tax Practitioners Board of Australia.  As an advisor Mark is dedicated to small business issues, what's going on in the finance world, emerging business practices, and taxation issues of relevance.

Taking the lead with modern practices

We want what's appropriate for our clients from various backgrounds, so although we have our roots in traditional accounting services, we are also experts in cloud accounting, software based business solutions and electronic document delivery. We support a range of popular small business bookkeeping software including but not limited to Xero, MYOB, Intuit (Quickbooks / Quicken) and Reckon.  Cloud accounting and electronic delivery of documents are excellent but optional services.
